Mark Hollis, lead singer of Talk Talk, passed away.
I know Talk Talk is often associated with early '80s new wave crap but, to me, they were different. Hollis's voice was unmistakable and powerful. He essentially quit music 30 years ago but was incredible while he was in the business.
"The Partys Over" is one of the most underrated albums of all time, imo. Several tracks on that album could be released today and instantly be hits.

Was stunned to hear this news yesterday. This one really hurts. Extremely talented and innovative songwriter/musician.

As someone who’s only experience with Talk Talk is Laughing Stock, it always strikes me as odd that they were once a new wave band. I could never totally get into Laughing Stock, but it did definitely have some moments of beauty. Going to give Spirit of Eden a try today.

I think the Colour of Spring is an absolute masterpiece of an album, and their artistic peak. It's the best mesh of accessibility and artistic merit they ever did. In my book it's one of the best albums of that entire decade.
Laughing Stock is a masterpiece in it's own way, but its a pretty challenging listen, and not something I'd just throw on and listen to on a frequent basis. Although the song on that album "After the Flood" might be my all time favorite by Talk Talk.
RIP, to one of the most criminally underrated musicians of all time
