He's the next best thing to Freddie - been saying that since his video went viral - why May and company didn't hire him is beyond me (ETA: They did for the the official tribute band, but he should have been the pick for actual Queen.)

Nope. Just nope.
I’m a huge Queen fan. My first concert was Queen at the Municipal Auditorium in 1978. Freddie was the greatest. Martel does a great job mimicking Freddie’s tone, though he is a little lacking in the power. Still, he’s the closest mimic I’ve heard. But I don’t believe a replacement lead singer should be someone who mimics the previous singer. I saw Queen last year with Adam Lambert in Houston. I thought he did a splendid job. He has great range and power, has very good presence as a front man, and can do the music justice interpreting it in his own way. To me, that’s the job of a new lead singer - not someone trying to copycat the original.
Martel recently played at Hard Rock with his tribute band. I had wanted to see him since I first heard about him, but after seeing Queen last year I thought seeing a tribute band would be pointless.
