Steve Goodman & John Prine about to work on that extra verse for "You Never Even Called Me By My Name"

That photo is of them in front of the 1942 Wurlitzer that Goodman gave to John Prine for having co-written You Never Even Call Me by my Name. Prine had refused royalties because he thought the song was crap.

Something I was surprised to learn - Jimmy Buffet and Steve Goodman were friends, and Goodman wrote a few of the songs Buffet recorded. Buffet spent a good bit of time in Chicago and was a Cubs fan because of Goodman. When the Cubs made the playoffs Steve Goodman had died, so they asked Jimmy Buffet to sing the national anthem for game 1 of the 1984 NLCS.
RIP Steve Goodman, he was a great one.

The jukebox, which is now on display in the museum’s galleries, was a gift to Prine from his friend and fellow singer-songwriter Steve Goodman, who wanted to thank him for co-writing Goodman’s first country hit, “You Never Even Called Me by My Name.” Prine refused to take credit or accept any royalties for the song.

Man, I love me some EmmyLou Harris

Losing Emmylou will hurt more than any musician so far (hopefully FAR in the future). She is a national treasure.

I remember Paper Steamboat doing a cover of that song in their shows at Slick's in St. Martinville.
