Keith Richards, and his ranking in your book?

Started thinking about this last night when I tuned my guitar in open G, and messing around w/some old stones stuff.
From a technical standpoint, he's probably not considered all that great by most, but man, stylistically, that guy is awesome.
Love figuring out his licks. They are harder than they sound.

I think you summed him up pretty well. Perfect for his band, created some great riffs, limited range. A real artist, and worth a dozen of any of the shredder wankers, who spend a million notes to say nothing.

In my book, being able to write good music is way more important than being technically proficient on your instrument...

Notice that the guitar stayed in tune. Suck that, Gibson! You slippery G string-tuner-making assholes.

I love Gibsons, if Keef had been playing a les Paul, as heavy as they are...He would have killed that guy if he had hit him

Sure.
And his G would have gone flat.

I think Keef is the riff master and one of the best rhythm guitarist ever. His solo on the studio Sympathy is so damn good. I think Mick Taylor is a better lead guitarist though.
Check out the Brussels Affair boot from '73. Soooo bad arse.
