Really not digging that song live

I've never seen them live, but as a bassist myself I feel like their sound is reeeeeeally empty

I've heard some better versions on youtube that were OUTDOORS. This one was a bit off, maybe the room... who knows.
I tend to agree Doc, without bass it does sound rather empty.

They're a studio band, imo. Even the White Stripes and Black Keys had a hard time having a really full sound live with just guitar and drums. To sound full they have to play really loud, and it gets to the point that the instruments and vocals just start kinda drowning each other out.

the white stripes were great live as a two piece... the black keys weren't great as a two piece IMO

I saw them live in St Louis, and wasn't very impressed. I think songs from their older album Post Nothing actually sound better live. Or at least they more resemble the studio work, which makes sense.
I saw the Black Keys at Lolla in '10. The first half of their set was just the two of them playing older songs. I thought it sounded decent, but they brought on a full band to do the songs from Brothers and it sounded really great.
