Janis Joplin's Birthday

Just giving a shout out to Janis Joplin on her birthday. I still remember my dad playing the "Pearl" album when I was younger, and me being wowed by her voice.
I knew "Bobby McGee" was a Kris Kristofferson song. Did not know he wrote it in Louisiana, in his days flying helicopters to offshore oil rigs.

Joplin dated conservative icon Bill Bennett -- once -- back in their mutual days at 1967's UT/Austin.

Did you ever hear Kris and his producer tell the story of that song?
His producer came up with the title. It had something to do with a friend's secretary that would always flirt with him and her name was Bobby McGee. His friend was joking about it one day, so Kris's producer suggested that title to him. Kris was sitting at the airport waiting on his plane back to Nashville, after his turn was up. The original first line was: Busted flat in Baton Rouge waiting for a plane. They decided that "train" would work better than "plane" because it sounded more country. There's a youtube video of them telling the story. Kris had a very close relationship with Joplin after she recorded that, until she died.

Not to hijack the thread but KK's story of how he got his "big break" by getting "Sunday Morning Coming Down" to Johnny Cash is really good.....search it.
Back to the thread; Janis could sing her arse off
