Are you a member of NSAI? That's a pretty good way to get to pitch to some publishers, and going to the meetings, you can get a lot of info too.
I use to even get demo session work that way sometimes.
They use to have weekly meetings On Thursday Night at The Musicians Union Hall, don't know when or where, these days though.
At least once a month, there would be a publisher there, looking for songs.
I have been considering joining again.

Yeah had a co writer that used to do that. The best way to do it is get out there play the songs and network, but I live outside the city now and I'm just too damn lazy.

Same for me, I'm 250 miles from Nashville now,so it's hard, but there''s a guy that lives near me,he had a MAJOR hit,not all that long ago,and he had gotten going through NSAI. He was working at a paper mill Near Montgomery when it happened. He doesn't work there anymore. So,it can work.

Heck, how about posting something here? I would like to check it out.
You said you use to work at a studio, you probably have some pretty good recordings compared to what I have.

Haha, I'm only like 25 minutes from town, so I'm super lame. Ive written with and know a few people with recent hits, but just gotta get my damn shite together.Ive been terrible about working on relationships

Yeah man I'll do it. Ive got 2 songs that are almost done, that I want to finish before I come back up,so probably a couple of weeks from now.

I like to swing By Bobby's Idle Hours, and pick with some of the folks over there a bit. It's pretty laid back, and there are some good people to meet there in afternoons, after they leave their offices, they come by to have a beer or two.

Looks Like I have attracted a serial downvoter!
I have finally Arrived!
Should I give a speech or something?

Haha, good ol Bobby's. I went to school a few blocks from there. I remember their old location before they had to move. The ultimate dive.

Man,the old place, they could have shot movies there,it was the definition of a dive!

The new place isn't much better, but that's why it's comfortable to go there and pick and stuff. You don't have to worry about how you are dressed,or if you have the nicest guitar,or any of that stuff.
And there are some beautiful women that come in there sometimes.

nice dude. I liked it a lot. I'm not the biggest fan of country but I really enjoyed that.

If I was covering that song I'd add a fuzzy slow electric blues solo at 2:09 right after the buckle down lyric. would be amazing. It has the perfect buildup and lyric structure to break into a slow blues solo and bring the house down.

Breesus and Cootkilla, thanks to both of y'all. I am glad y'all enjoyed it.

Also cootkilla, the song isn't so much about making music,as it's about raising your kids to do bigger things, and just being proud of them. Even inspired by them.

I also like reading your posts on the outdoor board, especially the one about the otter.
The good natured ribbing by your brother and Dad,(mainly your good attitude about it),lets me know you were raised right.
