I think I listen to 71 more than any other period
"ladies and gentlemen..." from April 71 stays in constant rotation and might be the best commercial dead release ever. post Mickey and pre Keith, the bands playing behind pigpen really peaked, with incredible grooves within the R&B pocket of the pig's repertoire
others from that era are 3 from the vault (feb 71 Capitol), summer 71 road trips (parts of the remarkable 8/6/71 show), and dicks picks 35 (more from aug 71). this is peak pigpen on his last healthy tour, and bob and phils playing at an all time high
all those shows returned to the vault is seismic news for deadheads...all of them are release worthy and the sound quality is magnificent
