I used my friend's Roland microcube for a couple of weeks, then I came across a boss katana 50 for a decent price so I hopped on it. I'll transition to a nice tube after I get some good knowledge and playing experience under my belt. The katana is keeping my interest pretty well for now. I'm really digging Justinguitar.com.

The Seagull

This x 10!

I came up on a brand new seagull for 100 bucks. I had no idea what it was at the time.

I'm glad you've started your journey.Good times ahead.

I was at your spot 17 years ago. You've got a very playable acoustic.I've played one at the local Music Store and I loved it.Very playable Neck.

I figured that at the least I've played a guitar 3K-5K hours during the last 17 years.

I'm glad you're on your way.

A journey of a thousand miles starts with 1 step.

After a few weeks learning I would suggest Justin Guitar over Fender Play.

My biggest challenge has been trying to transistion between the few chords I know. Justin starts with pivot fingers on the open chords and it is much easier, starting with A-D.

Fender had me moving all across the frets and strings, G-C and G-D. Plus the stretch needed to play C is tough.

My sausage like fingers don’t help. Gotta keep them tall!

I would recommend to try and learn even just a little bit of music theory. You’ll be amazed at how much easier it becomes once you realize the reason WHY chords are voiced the way they are. I promise it makes a huge difference and is well worth the time!

I like Justin guitar better myself. I play the a chord the way he does. It just easier for me to transition from a to d that way.

I learned with Song Books and a Chord Dictionary.About $400 of them.The Complete 3 volume set of The Who,The Wall,Led Zepplin,ACDC,etc.

When you get bored with simple songs and you want to play songs that you learned the guitar to play,it gets fun then.

It doesn't happen overnight.

The last piece of the puzzle for me was "Right Hand(Pick Hand} Rhythm".

When I attained that I starting progressing at whatever pace I want to.

It's up to me what Songs I learn now.

eta: You'll encounter Chords later in your journey, such as F#m,and Bb,or Bm.

Learning how to make an "open chord" F#m unlocked so many Songs to me.

I play an open Bm also.

And a 2 finger Barre Bb.

I agree that Justin's 'alternative' Open A is better for moving between D and A but once you get more comfortable with G and C and build finger strength you may want to practice the more traditional A as it leaves your hand more open for movement IMO. Maybe even practice alternating the two as such:

D
'Justin' A
G
'Standard' A

I watch YouTube vids from the following people:

Yourguitarsage
Marty music
Sean Daniel
Guitarzoom

They all have different playlist and videos for music theory ranging from basic chord structure and progressions to scales and everything else. I’d start with the major scale and go from there. Everything else builds off the major scale.

I used to think scales were only for lead guitar but I started progressing so much better as a whole when I started learning scales and theory in general.

One last thing, I find Sean Daniel and yourguitarsage better for more basic beginner type things. A lot of people like Marty, myself included, but he seems to me more geared towards licks and songs rather than teaching fundamentals.
