Any tips?

I use the app on my phone and currently just search for an artist and listen. Is there a better method? Is there a way to build my own song playlists?

FYI I haven't been using it very long, about a month. Maybe there's something better?

Create a few stations of things you like or after bands you like. After some grading of music, you should then 'add variety' and try to broaden that station. It usually will kick back a bunch of bands you never heard from before.

Criss Crossing two oppsite but similar genres makes a good station too.

Lately I use Pandora for comedy stations only, another amazing plus to the app.

Nice.

So thumbs up/down will refine my stations?

I haven't rated a single song yet.

Yes, it is the most important thing to do! After a while you will notice a difference in your stations based on what you have thumbs up or down. You can also move songs from one station to another.
