I've been thinking about spending some of the money I earned this summer on acquiring some home recording stuff. I'd also be needing to get a mic to go with it.
Is this a good investment? I know PreSonus is a good brand, but is there any other I should look at?
What kind of connection should I use? What kind of software? What kind of hardware?
I'm not looking to spend an arm and a leg, but I'd just like to get some advice on the subject since I'm pretty ignorant here.

I'd mainly be recording guitar and vocals, and maybe keyboard and bass. I'd only be recording one track at a time and would probably just use tracks for the drum parts.
This is mostly for my own usage as a hobby. I'd like to be able to play the songs I've written with the other parts added in that I can't play without a full band.
