re: Here’s a good old song that you’ve never heard, from a band (Petra) you’ve never heard of…

Petra was known for bringing higher production values to Christian rock than had been seen to that point. John Elefante (from the band Kansas) and his brother Dino produced several of their albums and wrote some of their songs. They brought the same production value to the Petra projects that Kansas employed.
If you want to go further back, try out some Resurrection Band. Apparently some weird people but one of the first bands to try and bring hard rock to Jesus music.
The comments about Keith Green are pretty spot on. But don’t sleep on Rich Mullins. He was in a similar vein at his best.

The Elefante Brothers were great…John is, to this day, a world class vocalist….some of the earliest work they did was producing a band called the Sweet Comfort Band…early 80’s, same time as the Rez Band…so many memories.

Sweet Comfort Band was great. The horns and that jazzy pop-rock sound just hit the spot sometimes.
Even though I have a complicated relationship with the church, I still enjoy some of the old music from my younger days.
Another gifted songwriter is Randy Stonehill. “Christmas at Denny’s “ is one of my all time favorites.

SCB guitar player and primary songwriter, Randy Thomas, later had a band called Allies…their singer was a guy named Bob Carlisle, whose claim to fame was a song called Butterfly Kisses, but that was a few years later…Bob Carlisle may be the best singer I’ve ever heard. Strange fact: Carlisle sang all the high backing vocals on Motley Crue’s Girls Girls Girls…

Wait- what? Bob Carlisle recorded with Crue? That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard in a while.

I know right? It’s so absurd, how in the hell could I make it up? Want proof? Just listen to the song…it is unmistakable Bob Carlisle.
Check out wiki for the song…look at “additional musicians”….I was unable to link it for some reason…

I didn’t doubt you. I looked up and he also sang with REO Speedwagon. Interesting stuff.
