Get to impossible chord or chord change and get angry.

Instead of giving up, try to find a different way to do that chord, that is easier for you. There are lot's of ways to do every chord.

Learn the phrases and practice them very slowly.

Practice while doing other things until you you don't notice that you are playing the phrase. Do the same for each part of the song and you'll learn the song thoroughly.

Find the Key, then learn the chord changes, then the riffs last. For the solos I usually get frustrated and just say I have the rhythm parts.

But throw her in the generic radio pop group

That's a pretty big group. Can you narrow it down? strictly new stuff? Older stuff? examples?

Yes it is

Lets see, we are listening to Taylor Swift right now (I'm shocked she actually dj'd so its rolling). She mentioned the other day she likes John Mayer. She will jam Better than Ezra...If I had to put her in a nutshell I'd say late 2000's through 2010's soft pop rock. She is 28.

If you learn and play her Tennessee Whiskey, I bet you get lucky that night.

Here's an easy one: Hey Soul Sister, it's 4 chords C-G-A minor-F. or you could do it the key of G, it would be G-D-E minor-C.

If you just type: "easy pop guitar songs from the 2000s" in your search, it will give you all kinds of easy songs.

I have been playing a little longer than you and have the same frustration at times.

I work with a teacher and youtube videos. Some easy 4 chord songs

Dead Flowers
Can't You See
Wagon Wheel
Knocking of Heaven Door

Most of those have your basic chords G,C,D, Am, Em and easy strum patterns.

Those were the first four I started with.

I have moved onto some others now

Let Her Cry
Wish You Were Here
Learning to Fly
Pretty Woman
Growin Up

WYWH and PW are a bit more difficult with harder chords and changing strum patterns.

The wife wants me to learn Picture by Kid Rock and Sheryl Crowe. First one she has asked me to learn.

quote:

Pick one well beyond my ability. String 8-10 notes together. Get to impossible chord or chord change and get angry. Then noodle around until sleepy and go to bed frustrated.

I also do this as well.

Marty Music on YouTube does great videos.

Just google his name and beginner songs. The videos are about 10 min for the easier songs.
