I am in the beginner/intermediate stage of guitar playing. I have two guitars here but they are my roommates and the one with the guitar I like to play is moving out, so I need to buy my own. Neither is a super nice guitar.
I am wanting to go the used route to get more bang for my buck. Just for reference, the guitar I like the feel of more is an Epiphone FT-120, and the one I am not a huge fan of is a Yamaha APX500III.
I am currently contemplating buying a Takamine EG-530SC electric acoustic for $300 with a case in "like new" condition with no scratches from a guy on Letgo not too far from me.
Would this me a decent first guitar for me? I am not looking to spend any more than $300 and I like the look of this one as well as the reviews I have read. Open to thoughts/opinions.
I am in the Nola area.

If the Takamine is the same guitar that I think it is, i'd say anywhere from $275 to $300 is fair. Since the case is included.

Yep, grab it up. Get it set up.

You have experience with one?

Not that particular model, But I have an old cedar top, mahogany back and sides Takamine N-10, that doesn't even have electronics. It's a very similar design to that one, but has a 2 piece saddle. Man, it is a beautiful sounding and playing guitar.
That one you are looking at is made in South Korea, and I imagine it's going to be a pretty nice player. Hell the case is worth 100 bucks.
It's going to be hard to find a better deal.

Is going to buy a guitar considered "essential"?

If you can't make a trip to go buy a good guitar, the commies have already won.

Looks great. How does it play? Is the action good?

Like I said I am still a beginner, but noticeably much better sound and playability than any of the guitars I've played. I feel like I made a good purchase.

If you are noticing a difference, you probably did well.
Try this: just using 1 finger, fret the bottom 4 strings, and move to each fret up to the 12th and see how it sounds.
Is it easy to fret?
Do the electronics work?
