Grooveshark shuts down after 8 years

Anyone else bummed out about this? I much preferred this service to pandora or youtube, great resource for music. So many playlists I've made over the years just gone now.

It pretty much flew under the radar, I imagine that's why it was available for as long as it was. Pretty much any song you could think of, free.

I used it for two years at work. It was outstanding and FREE!!! Then my wife bought me my first mp3 player with a free 3 month Rhapsody subscription. During the 3 months, Groove Shark became crazy with the excessive pop-ups, so I decided to pay the 10 dollars a month for Rhapsody. I still pay the 10 dollars a month. I truly love their service.

grooveshark wasn't paying ANY royalties to the artists or labels... surprised they got away with it for as long as they did

There is a reddit app made that will recover your playlists if you are interested. Sucks they are gone. I started using them in 2009. Had no clue how it operated and didn't care, easy to see how they were shut down and shocked they lasted this long

My internet went down for 2 days, and when I got it back I went to Grooveshark and saw the message.
It sucks, I started using it during high school because Youtube was blocked.

That's what I used to play music I didn't own in the car
Just took advantage of that Spotify app though. Pretty good for 99 cents a month. Don't have to worry about some struggle DJ throwing a bunch of shotouts in a song either
