I have been a huge fan of Steinman's music for some time now. His knack for epic songs with clever wordplay and a heightened sense of drama makes him one of my favorite songwriters.

Bat Out Of Hell, "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All", "Total Eclipse Of The Heart", "I'd Do Anything For Love" and many more. The man could write a song.

He passed away yesterday.

Damn. His partnership with Meatloaf was legendary.

Didn't he do a big Celine Dion one, too?

The Celine song is “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now”

RIP, hope he’s found his paradise via a dashboard light.

I feel majorly affronted that they described "Read Em and Weep" as a Barry Manilow song. Meat Loaf sang the crap out of it first.

"You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)" is about the most perfect distillation of camp and 50s nostalgia and bombastic vocals. A song only Steinman could write and only Meat Loaf could record.

A little Steinman trivia: in a Creem magazine interview when his only solo album came out, he was asked how he came up with the title. He said he was a big Red Sox fan, and was watching a game on TV early in the season. He told his girlfriend “Geez, the Sox look terrible this year.” She said, “Well, its only April - maybe they’ll get better later in the season?” “No, babe,” he replied, “I think they’re gonna be bad for good.”

I love this version of "Lost Boys and Golden Girls" from the Bad For Good album.
