Fretshack, your sage advice is needed once again..

I bought this Fender FR50 resonator guitar a few weeks ago, and I like it so much, that it's the only thing I've been playing.
It's a Chinese made, so I don't mind doing some drilling and modifying.
I was thinking of putting a p-90 dog ear at the bottom of the neck, and one of the Fishman, under the saddle pick ups.
Does that sound reasonable? Do you see drawbacks?
I looked at your work on that nice resonator the other day, and I love what yall did. I'm just thinking of doing something different.

First, make sure you have a true saddle you can put a piezo under. Most resonators don't have a separate saddle like an acoustic, they have a wooden one-piece almost like you see on a banjo that sits atop the resonator.
I don't recommend cutting up a guitar if a top-mount solution exists, especially for a P-90 that is noisy by nature via 60-cycle hum. Hum-cancelling P-90s are not P-90s, they are humbuckers. I have yet to find any noiseless P-90 that actually sounds and acts like one.
I'd recommend a Lace Sensor adhesive/surface mount like the one you saw on my FB page. Sounds great, zero hum, easy to install, non-intrusive and easy to remove if you wish to put it on a nicer guitar down the road. Also research contact transducers options from K&K and Schatten. Here's something from the latter offerer that directly fits what you seek.

Thanks man. So you think neck pick up is really Not even worth doing? I was thinking about it, and it might be a bad idea on a full thickness guitar?
I am looking at it, and it is a two piece bridge sitting on top of the resonator. The bottom part looks like maple or bone, with the actual saddle looks like rosewood with a split in the middle.

Re-read the post carefully, auggie, I recommended a surface mount Lace Sensor neck pickup. I said a P-90 and routing a guitar are not worth doing.
On the piezo/contact transducer, if you think you can make an undersaddle pickup actually work on your resonator's bridge, and work better than the task-specfic Schatten units I showed you, try it. Worst thing that can happen is it don't/won't work and you can try at that point whichever of my suggestions is the best approach for your instrument, skillset and budget.
On that note, gotta get to the paying jobs now, best of luck!

Well Fretshack, I finally got what you are saying on that last post, and I appreciate your patience with me and going a little further. That's why you are a valuable asset to a lot of us on here. Rewards are waiting on you for being so generous, and I'm not kidding.
You are in a position to know about things, that some of us country people have never even seen. I thank you for your advice.
