Free pianos on craigslist?

I've noticed that there are a lot of people on craigslist willing to give way various old painos for free, as long as you're willing to pick it up yourself. Has anyone ever taken one off someone's hands? Whats been your experience with it?
I took paino lessons for a few months when I was a kid, but I stopped when I picked up the guitar. But now I think I'm interested in taking it up again and actually learning the piano and not silly songs like Pop Goes the Weasel and Yankee Doodle, etc. The way I see it you can't really go wrong with a free one, can you?

I'm thinking you've never moved an old piano. There is a reason why they are giving it away. I have one built in the 1860s that my grandfather sent home from France during WW2. If it wasn't an heirloom, I'd rather a nice 88-key electric job.

Growing up we had an old one (1940's I would estimate), and then we bought a newer nicer one (1990s i would reckon). It took about 2-3 people to move the old one. Moving isn't so hard if you prop it on to rollers.

Moving it isn't too bad. Tuning it after amateurs move it...impossible.

I got an old player piano from my Grandmother-in-law. Big fricker and my plan was to have it tuned. The guy looked at it and said that everything was rusted and busted, it would cost me $300 just to get it tuned...a step lower. So now I got this giant wooden monstrosity that cant do shite with in my living room.
People on CL's story probably arent that much off from mine.
