I love and play acoustic guitar and I have a good collection. But I'm thinking about getting an electric guitar for this band I joined and I'm interested in suggestions. Here are the details:

• I'm left-handed
• I'm a strummer, pretty much a rhythm guitar player
• I have SMALL hands--my fingers can only reach across 3 frets
• I can drop up to $3,000 on the instrument, but would be happy to buy something less expensive

Thoughts?

1959 Gold Top Les Paul.

Don't be a bitch. Be a baller.

I have nothing helpful. I strum only acoustic.

Most of the major manufacturers offer left handed models, I think you could find something really nice for less than a grand, like the Fender standard Stratocasters and Telecasters. Guitars that sell in the several thousand dollar range usually have exotic woods, higher quality pickups, hardware, and are probably made in the U.S. with the increase in quality that my or may not come with that, any difference in playability seems negligible to me. How easy a particular brand or model is to play is mostly dependent on how it was set up, and the gauge of strings on it. There are many different types of necks and it would be hard to say which one might be suitable for your hands. Hit the nearest Guitar Center store and try a bunch of them, and keep in mind that if you like a guitar but find the string height is too high making it difficult to play that is usually just a matter of adjustments that can be done by a competent tech.

Consider a semi-hollowbody. Like a nice Gretsch, or Gibson ES-335.

For an amp maybe check out a Fender Princeton Reverb.

Also, if you're like me, try to get something vintage. New gear only goes down in value.

You can never, ever, go wrong with a Tele.

Unless you're playing metal, I guess, which nobody should be doing anyway.

Jerrys left handed guitars

I bought a guitar from Jerry a couple years ago. I'll e-mail him for suggestions; the thing I'm most interested in is a guitar that accommodates my small hands.

Strats and Teles are 25.5" scale.

Les Paul is 24.75".

Fender does make some 24" scale models. John Lennon played a 21" Rickenbacker. It would probably make your hands look huge.

Get whatever scale length you prefer for your acoustics. Besides the scale length, there is also the neck profile to consider.

Yes. I will probably buy a semi-hollow Tele in the next year or so.

And then it's a Gibson L5. One day.

I'd love to have one...but what I really want is a Super 400.

I'm also a fan of the Gretsch Country Gentleman.
