I know theres a difference for a reason, but a friend of mine did it recently without thinking. I'm just learning and tried playing it and it still sounded better than the beginner guitar that i use. The strings were easier to press and strum. But does it really matter?

Not at all. If you don't mind breaking strings.

Its not like i know any better. I happened to look at his guitar realized all the strings were silver and not bronze.

Not all acoustic strings are bronze, e.g. Martin Silk & Steel have silver wound strings. They are much lower tension than regular acoustic strings and easier to play, and they can sound great on the right guitar.

some people like the sound

I think it sounds terrible

you might want to adjust your truss rod to compensate for the tension though

I keep an electric string on my G. Old slash trick, unwound makes the bends easier.

The electric strings are easier to press on the neck but it probably wouldnt help me if im trying to get better.
