Bassists generally do have an underrated handle on theory beyond that bullshite though. I feel like they can get away with certain stuff but knowledge of theory especially for those of more of a jazz persuasion is underappreciated IMO.

I love Pearl Jam. I listen to their Sirius channel often. It's amusing when they run a "band member pick". They always pick the weirdest shite. The bassist is the worst. "I like their music as its more angular." Another guy (Stone) has his clip run often. He picks a Zepplin song and takes In The Evening?

But........In The Evening is a great song

Tricky because we are talking about personal tastes. I don;t know that LZ released a song that it is agreed sucks balls. In the massive catalog of Led Zepplin, he could have picked others.

Id say that learning to play the guitar made me search for new music to learn and introduced me to some of my favorite bands that I never would have ever found had I not learned to play the guitar

I agree! I'm not a musician, but listen to different kinds of music (from classical to rap ). Tastes differ, so it's impossible to say that someone has a beeter taste, especially in music.

I wouldn't say they have better taste, but they're able to recognize songs that are harder to play than others. Doesn't necessarily make them have better taste in music.

I think it kicks in a lot when a group of people whove never held so much as a guitar are gushing over some cookie cutter shite song that took someone 5 minutes to come up with. I sit there thinking damn it cant be that easy.
