He plays guitar completely right handed. That's damn crazy to me.

There were a couple on SoundCloud in a thread on here a while back. They weren't very guitar centric, more Mellow acoustic stuff with keyboards. I'll try to dig something up.

To your original point, I tried to buy a lefty guitar for my first ax and basically the salesperson was like we don't have any but you should play righty anyway! So I was like OK. But it honestly makes sense to me to have your dominant hand doing the fretting.

How long have you been playing? and how do you rate yourself?

I have been learning for over 35 years, and only consider myself middle of the road capable.
No need to be OT great.

Was it easier doing things like mirror,or what?

I guess almost 30 years now. I don't know how I'd rate myself. I don't suck but I see guys play a lot that are as good or better than myself. I'm just a funky blues type player. Play slide a good bit. I really don't practice a hell of a lot anymore, just pick it up and work on songs. Getting older I don't really care about all of the crazy soloing. I prefer quality of notes to quantity. I just want to be JJ Cale basically.

That is honorable..I always want to be like Guy Clark, and you know,in these threads about him the other day,I don't even know what to say.
For me, I relate more to Randall Knife more than anything,as far as personal feelings. I know that story,in my own life.

The way I write, more like El Coyote.. I like to take other peoples stories and make them personal.

I'm the same.

But I had to teach myself right handed. Didn't know how to restring the first guitar given to me

Did you just mirror everything and associate musically?

Man, I hope I can do that soon, technology is a bitch for me.

I am right handed but I can shoot a rifle infinitely better left handed for long range stuff. Pistol, bow.. I am still right handed.

If action is quick, shite is happening, I will go back to be right handed with the rifle, just because it's faster.
I can't imagine being that way with guitar.

frick that lazy arse sales person!

j/k ... sort of. I mean it's obvious that playing RH is more convenient--for one thing, the typical guitar store stocks like maybe 1 or 2 crappy LH acousticals and a couple LH electrics. And selling your old LH's is much harder too.

But playing left is cool, if for no other reason than there's so few around.

Plus you can always say stuff like, "Yeah, my playing style is similar to Jimi Hendrix" with a (reasonably) straight face.

I can play a little bit of Albert King style. Basically righty flipped over lefty with the skinny strings on top. Not quite like Albert though!

Love me some Albert! I was 53 years old when I started playing, so playing LH made sense to me--it's truly what I was that late in life.

Had I been younger though, I'd have been tempted to learn right-handed, for the reasons I stated in my other post. It sucks to go to a guitar show where out of a thousand guitars, maybe 10-15 are lefty!
