just Kanye's delusion that he's a great musician/singer/songwriter.

Except Kanye is a great musician, singer, songwriter and performer. Kanye has had a hand in producing for some of the largest names in rap and R&B...just because he isn't some people's cup of tea or in their preferred genre doesn't take away from his importance to the rap genre.

A lot of people confuse hatred of the person as proof of a lack of talent or importance. They don't go hand-in-hand.

I think Crosby is spot on though

I disagree.

But he is not a top notch singer/songwriter/musician.

I think he is a competent rapper, has made some great beats/songs, and has made great music.

If you are not playing an instrument(s) to produce that music, you are not a musician but a producer.

A midi controller is an instrument and he does play the piano.

I'd even make the argument that a computer can be used as an instrument.

There are countless examples of lead singers in history that have never picked up an instrument but nobody here would make the distinction that they aren't musicians.

I don't think he's a musician in the sense that he could jump onstage and jam with some other artists, but he's a musician nonetheless. That said, I'll never forget his version of "Bohemian Rhapsody", and I don't mean it in a good way, lol...

There's enough credible artists who give the guy props, so while he's not my thing personally, who am I to argue?

Spot on? Really? Look, I can't stand Kanye as much as the next person, but in the rap community, he's done some pretty substantial things. And since when do most rappers "sing"? Crosby is so damn out of touch, that he's trying to compare Stevie Wonder's and Ray Charles's music to Kanye's rap. He might as well have said "he should go listen to Miles Davis to learn how to play the trumpet." It doesn't make any sense and is a dumb argument to make.

If he doesn't like rap in general and doesn't like Kanye's music, that's fine. But he, and many people on this board and posting in this thread, need to realize that you can still be a "musician" and not play a traditional musical instrument, like guitar, piano, bass, drums. If you are too closed minded to realize this, then you shouldn't be taken seriously. Some instruments are easier to learn than others, but knowing how to play an instrument isn't everything there is to making music.
