"Leader of the Band" - Dan Fogelberg
What an incredibly intimate and emotional track. I haven't even lost my father yet I still get incredibly distraught when this song come on the radio/my playlist.
Every lyric has real weight to Dan. "My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man," "thank you for the freedom when it came my time to go," "he gave to me a gift I know I never can repay." Even the piece at the end is called "The Washington Post," which was arranged by his father.
It's one of my favorite songs ever. I'm learning to play piano and will hopefully be able to play this song for my future children one day.

I was thinking about him a few days ago. It's really a shame that I haven't heard him for sometime.
I really liked his first two albums. My girlfriend and I saw him in Lafayette in the early 70s.

I'm going to give him a listen, he deserves it. Gone too soon.

Another Auld Lang Syne is another great one, but LOTB is incredible.

Fogelberg has always been one of my favorites. Writer, exquisite musician and vocalist. One of those guys who could play every instrument on an album if he wanted. I got to see him in my senior year at LSU do an acoustic solo concert at the PMAC.
Check out the last "new" release--Live at Carnegie Hall (solo acoustic)--released a few years ago. Brought me back to that set at LSU.
