I would say, Van Zandt as a songwriter for sure. Steve Earle named his son after him and Guy Clark loved the guy.

I know I will be in minority here, but I don't care for REK. His voice gets on my nerves. The only song of his I could listen to over and over is 'The Man behind The Drums', oddly enough about Helms.
