And nothing sucks the energy out of the room quicker than a band trudging through a song they've learned to loath because they're playing it out of obligation. You might not like some changes they make, that's fair, but blaming them for trying something new is dumb.

I saw a show about 10 years ago that featured a bunch of 80's bands.

Flock of Seagulls played a very dark, slow version of "I Ran", and everyone just sat in their seats staring in disbelief. The crowd seemed to actually get a little restless. It was very awkward. The band knew this version was not being received well...so they followed it up by playing the album/radio version, and the place went nuts.

I think major acts with deep catalogs have some wiggle room as far as live experimentation.....if you're a one/two-hit wonder, you damn well better play your song the right way.

I tend to agree in the sense that, they know what people want to hear and thats the only reason they are touring and making money... if they want to keep doing it, they will... most know where there bread is buttered
