Played guitar and bass for years but now thinking of taking up cello. Anybody play? Looks difficult.

A guitar has frets..... A cello doesn't....... Playing a chord or note is sort of like trying to find the G spot on a mannequin.

I had considered it a few years ago, and one good piece of advice I got was don't buy a cello, rent one. The music stores that supply instruments to local schools will usually rent them. You can see how you like it without spending a lot of money that will be hard to recover if turns out to be not your thing.
I see you are in the BR area, try Zeiglar Music on FL Blvd, there are also some online companies that will rent one and ship it to you.
