Can a 24/7 music video channel work?

It's been ages since MTV played mostly music and do they play any music at all anymore? MTV2, VH1, Fuse, and CMT also ended up playing programing not related to music. MTV used to be a great source to hear new music but now the better options seem to be SiriusXM or internet radio. I do enjoy watching Austin City Limits and MPB has Oxford Sounds which has some good bands on it.

If all of those secondary music channels had to resort to other programming, then there's probably not an audience anymore.

I was thinking about this the other day. I would like to just see a channel that just played 90's videos. Even something like how Nickelodeon has "The 90's Were All That" late at night on weekends would also be cool.

Yeah you guys are likely right even though it would be cool to see it happen again. It's sorta the same reason why channels like TLC and History play the crap that they do. Oh and I do like seeing some of the Guitar Center concerts on Audience Network.

The best chance of this happening would probably be a Roku or YouTube channel, where real music fans could seek it out.

Even at the height of MTV's influence over music in the 1980s, their overall ratings were not that big. They did get a very desirable demo -- females between 14-24 (young people have lots of disposable income, and women are seen as more likely consumers).
It was only with the success of Real World and the advent of reality TV that MTV started getting big overall numbers, while keeping the same attractive-to-advertisers demo.
