I love the oldies they play (though they do some strange interspersing with new shite - really strange - but it sounds like the bass gain is turned all the way to fricking 11. The distortion makes it horrible for some songs that are engineered with purposeful distortion (Jumpin Jack Flash) or heavy bass. Horrible sound, even on the DJ's voice. Anyone else notice this?

It's like this...the surprise factor, the unexpected odd song here and there that I may not have heard in years, is congruous with the odd, unexpected nature of life that may or may not throw you some odd/pleasant/unpleasant situations at unexpected times. Mentally keeps things loose and flexible and less resistant to hard curveballs thrown sometimes. Keeping a stash of music on an iPod or phone allows for a false illusion of control in one's life that just, by and large, doesn't exist IRL.

Can you dig it, man?

I hear you. But I have more than 500GB of music with 80GB of that on my iPod in the car. More often than not I play it on shuffle so I never know what I am going to get from the >80,000 songs (from all genres other than country) in my library. I come across new music via other people rather than radio these days. To be honest I have not listened to radio in almost 10 years.
