I subscribe to Rhapsody for ten bucks a month. It has an extensive library, except for some extreme underground stuff I can't find, and the heavily guarded bands with strict copyright laws like King Crimson and the Beatles. Songs stream to both your computer and phone, so if you use your phone in your car stereo, you've got that too. Also, while you're a paid subscriber, you can "download" music to your device so that you can listen to it if you're away from internet (subways, camping, etc). You sort of own the song for as long as you're a subscriber.

If you think about it, CDs cost more than ten bucks, so if you buy a few each year, Rhapsody is very cost effective. Some people pay for Netflix, I opt for a music subscription at the same price.
