1a & 1b: Jones and Strait; both have unique voices, large bodies of work, #1's out their arse, and can/could sell out large venues into their 80s. One was known for "the second best voice in music" according to Frank Sinatra, and the other a real deal ranching "cowboy's cowboy."

Hank Sr had he not died at the young age of 27 would have had a bigger body of work and more star/staying power.

But someone has to give The Carter Family credit for collecting and recording and making folk/appalachian/rural poems mainstream.

Willie, Waylon, Lefty, Merle, Earnest Tubb, Cash, and Robbins all deserve a place at the table.

George Strait wasn't destructive at all like Cash and Jones. Both tried to kill themselves and were at the point of being irrelevant. Jones needed he stopped loving her today to get back on track. Cash was almost to the point of retiring in Branson until he got a call from LA.

I believe had Cash and Jones didn't cause themselves to have so many bumps in the road then no doubt they would be kings of country.

I put both of them at the top of list tied because both had songs that cut deep in the hearts of individuals such as man in black and the grand tour as examples.

Ronnie Millsap - not just best country singer, but one of the best singers of any genre, period.
