possibly their finest vocal arrangement ever. And they were all just past 20 years old
When it changes key, it's like soul destroyingly great. (Also, John was going towards 24. Even George was already 21.)

I can’t get over the greatness of the bass lines in these songs.

Sounds like nothing else in music.

The bass is what makes the Beatles IMO.

In reading the Geoff Emerick book, he talks about late night sessions during Sgt. Pepper's where everyone had gone home and it was just him and Paul...and Paul was painstakingly going back and redoing individual bass notes. Like, literally, between 2-6 AM just to get a certain 5 notes (not together) right in one song.

The Beatles were so huge in the '6Os Ringo actually made the cover of jazz bible Downbeat (albeit w/a pic at least three years out of date)

I bet Buddy Rich was pissed.

My favorite Beatle "era" is the "Hard Day's Night" film and album.

I still prefer Rubber Soul and later, but we're talking shades here.

Crazy that Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields didn't make Sgt Pepper. Just had to get them out the door first. Why not just another standalone #1?

quick tangent

Why didn't anyone ever write more songs for Julian Lennon? He had the look and the sound. Just wondering what happened.

It's a good question. I'm just now starting to learn more about him.

heard an interview with him years ago on Howard Stern Show. He said Yoko would not let him have any of his dad's money.

Sounds like there's been at least some thawing. More pathetic is that his own father didn't leave him more.

He has a lot more now. The estate released over 20 million to him in 2018.

Nice. It seems to me that Yoko has been pretty decent in the past 25 years or so. She's the one that approved the 3 "new songs". By Paul's telling, it was pretty painless.

awesome. Still sucks that he was the first born of one of the most famous people in the world and step mom held the purse strings.

still think uncle Paul could have written a few songs for him and he could have made his own money.

If I Fell. Tell Me Why. I Should Have Known Better.

Hard Day's Night film and album is my favorite Beatles moment in time.

Today in 1969, The Beatles performed their legendary rooftop concert in London.

They played for the city for 42 minutes before being stopped by the police.

It was John, Paul, George, and Ringo’s final public performance as “The Beatles”.

What a legendary moment.
