On my lap it was not problem, however unless one is the size of an offensive lineman the T-40 is a bitch to use on stage for numerous sets per night

Not with the right strap. The AirCell guitar strap really helped distribute the weight. It is a fun instrument to play too. I wanna find one of the rare fretless versions.

Well the good thing here is it will be on my lap probably 100% of the time. I intend for this to be more of a hobby. If I take to it really well and actually come across some local outfit who could use a bass player and I want to give it a shot I will probably be good enough by then to have upgraded. I suppose that’s possible as I do have a bit of a musical background. It’s just been decades. Right now I just want to pick up an instrument, which I promised myself I would do when I quit my previous one a long, long time ago.

The good news, thanks to it being a tank the action on the T-40 is not temperamental. Enjoy

To be clear, LSUJax was looking at a Peavey Patriot bass from the 1980's, which is far lighter than the T40. I brought up the T40 that I own because I was using it as an example of the type of work Peavey was doing during that time period. The T40 is a superb American made instrument, with superb electronics and a genuinely cool sound. The downside is that it is 13 pounds, which can cause all sorts of problems.

my advice is not to get a 5 string

I bought one in the early 2000s because I swithed from drums to bass in our last band. Out of our entire set list we had about 5 songs that were in drop d...... I hated that thing, never got comfortable with it! So I just brought along another bass tuned to drop d,..... easy peasy. A 5 string in the hands of a talented musician is no problem. But being a drummer for years and years I wasn't exactly a talented bassist lol

Yep. Picked it up today. With an Ampeg amp as well. He let me choose between the Fender amp he had listed with it and the Ampeg and I went with the Ampeg. $300 total. Pretty stoked.

Ampeg is superior to fender amps. Solid state or tube

Kinda surprised this brand hasn't popped up, but you really can't go wrong with a Yamaha.

Dont get a 5 string. In that price range not worth it. Save more money and get a fender jazz. You can make it sound like any bass on the planet.
