Looks like daddy got a few bills to spend at Music Direct for Christmas!

Guess I’ll finally upgrade my cartridge! I know I’ve kind of went through some recs a while back... just wanting to revisit again. I’m assuming this is a good/best way to spend about $500 to upgrade something to the rig?

Think these were some of the ones on the table. VPI Nomad (older version) with a ortofon red right now, has the built in phono.

Stick with the ortofon and go the 2m bronze route since it’s MM too or move to a different brand and or MC cart.

Sumiko Blue Point Special Evo III
Hana E
Or any other recs... trying to stay around $500.

Saw that article this morning... just read it.

So, I guess the thing that is going to be the major player at determining a cart is the fact that I don’t have any adjustments on the tonearm. The do seem to use a VPI traveler, but it’s a different tonearm than on my Nomad. But, I guess it should be close enough to get somewhat similar results.

It seems that the blue point special and the Nagoaka MP 300 may be the best 2 to go with considering he doesn’t say they need to have adjustments made. The ortofon bronze is good as well, but he recommends you have a proper SRA setup for that one due to the nude “Fine Line” stylus..

BPS is a MC - 2.5mv
Nagoaka is a MM- 5mv
The ortofon red is at -5mv

Does the 2.5mv of the BPS hinder it b/c the pre amp of the Nomad is geared towards the ortofon 2m line which is at 5-5.5mv?

Or do I just bump up to the 2m blue replacement stylus and use the rest for other stuff....

The M700's are hooked up. Apparently I've been missing some bass!

So what’s the verdict after a few days?...notice any other changes/improvements?

No problem at all...I am here all week playing with audio gear (took the week off).

I am heading to Alterman Audio in Metry in a little bit to get another pair of the ELAC speakers to use as a gift for a college graduate.

Initial impressions are more and tighter bass, better imaging, and better clarity and control especially at higher volumes. Hooked up the PS audio PerfectWave transport and was really blown away. It made a big difference. I don't know if separation is the right word but it gives space to each instrument.

Can't wait to get the Gain Cell DAC but out of room for now and need to run a dedicated line.

My Dynaudio’s aren’t supposed to open up until 250+ hours and I’m nowhere near that. I really need to kick my wife out of the house so I can put some wattage through them and then I can work on positioning them and moving my seating back to get them dialed in.

Zu Audio Dl-130 Mk.II

This is what I have on my Rega Planar 3...I would say at the price point you are looking to go with, I would definitely give them a call and ask Gerrit if he thinks it will fit your needs.

Would like to get thoughts on my next purchase. Looking to add a headphone jack (I use Bose QuietComfort 35 for travelling) and better speakers (floor speakers or w/ stands).

Current setup in my smallish home office:

Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC
Pro-Ject Phono Box DC MM/MC pre-amp
Edifier R1280T

Under a $1,000, though that can be negotiable.
