Custom Chart - Rate Your Music

I think this is a really good tool for broadening your music tastes. You can type in any genre (there are tons of sub-genres to choose from) into the search bar and it will provide you with a ranking of albums from that particular genre as rated by users of the website. There's an FAQ on how the rankings are compiled as well. Of course, not everyone will agree with the rankings, music is extremely subjective, but it's a good tool to use if you wanna get into other kinds of music but don't know where to start.

I've just been going down the all time rankings and listening to every album (my favorite kind of music is metal). So far, my favorite listens have been Doolittle by the Pixies, Loveless by My Bloody Valentine, and Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division. I had never listened to those albums prior to a few weeks ago. I enjoyed OK Computer quite a bit, next listen will be Kid A. In fact, the only one I haven't really enjoyed in it's entirety is London Calling. I liked a few songs but it's a little too upbeat for me. Haven't given the Beatles a fair shot yet but I have Abbey Road in my library.

In the mid/late 00s I used RYM to discover all kinds of great music. Very useful site.

Doolittle and London Calling are two of my top ten albums of all-time. Loveless is great as well.

I loved Doolittle from the 1st listen.

I'll probably give London Calling another listen. I instantly loved the title track, Guns of Brixton, and Death or Glory. Those are the only 3 that really stuck with me the 1st time around.

Give it a few more listens. I actually thought it was overrated at one point early on, but then it clicked.
