American Aquarium Current Lineup "Breaking up" and New Record Title

The rumors were true in that everyone but BJ is leaving; however, the band will be revamped with all new members and recording a new record this year entitled "Things Change."
BJ is embarking on a solo tour through all 48 contiguous states with a stop in Baton Rouge on May 18.

I started American Aquarium in my college dorm room back in 2005 with the hopes of building a band to bring my songs to life. Over the last 12 years I've played 3000+ shows with 26 different members of American Aquarium. We've been to 13 countries, 46 states and have recorded 9 albums under the American Aquarium name.
It is with a heavy heart that I'm here to say the current lineup of American Aquarium is no more. Bill, Kevin, Ryan, Colin and Whit have decided to move on to the next chapter in their lives and pursue other ventures. There is no ill will and I sincerely wish them nothing but the best of luck on whatever path life decides to take them down and I hope you will too. What we had for the last few years went beyond friendship. These guys are my family and I will always look back to this version of the band fondly.
That said, American Aquarium isn't going anywhere. Like most things in life, band members change, however these songs and my dreams of playing them for folks every night do not. I've had to replace 20+ band members over the last decade and this time, although much harder, will be no different. If you've ever met me, you know that there isn't an ounce of quit in me, so after my annual summer solo tour in May/June I will be hitting the studio with a new group of musicians to work on American Aquarium's seventh full length record entitled "Things Change" and will be playing full band AA shows throughout the rest of 2017 and into the new year.
This band is a living organism and like all living things, it's ever evolving. The songs...the music...and sadly, the band itself. If this is where you get off the AA rollercoaster, let me thank you from the bottom of my heart for the years of love and support you have shown me and the boys. If you're sticking around, rest assured that I will continue to work as hard as I always have to write and perform the most honest music I'm capable of. The best is yet to come. I love you all and as always thanks for supporting live, original, independent music.
Onward and Upward.

Losing the lead guitar, bassist, pedal steel, and drummer of the past 10 years is a bigger deal than you think.

I'm trying to figure out how the entire band can be leaving without there being any ill will? Has that ever happened before, where the entire band was replaced (other than a solo artist replacing a band for a different sound)?

Still think he should have gone solo with this development and acquired a backing band etc after the solo tour

This is odd for them all to leave within a couple of months. I can't recall it happening before. Knowing them all since 2009, they are likely just over the tour life. Deep down, I would imagine bj might have some hurt feelings, but not enough for it to affect their friendship.

I agree, but the editor on Saving Country Music made a good point, there are touring guarantees that American Aquarium has earned and that BJ Barham & the American Aquarium Unit haven't.
I think most of the guys were just at a point where they wanted to settle down, but BJ is still hungry and driven and can't sit still.
Also, there were no dates scheduled post-Euro tour until after they made a record, and I could see that as a nice stopping point for someone in their position. Usually there would be little downtime between "tours." A perfect storm, if you will, of circumstances.
Everyone still seems to be friendly. They still like each others stuff on instagram, etc.
