I have been playing guitar for 13 years and have never paid for lessons. Given, there are things I wish I had done differently early on, but it was more advice that could be given than having someone sit me down for an hour to show me.

We recently enrolled our kids in music lessons (one guitar and one drums). That's a little lower than what we pay (20 per half hour lesson).

Maybe I can shed some light on this -
I was a guitar teacher in the Birmingham area for three years.
I charged $25/30 minute lesson. So 4 lessons in a month was $100. 5 lessons in a month was $125.
In the city I currently live in, the average asking price at the music stores for lessons is $32/month. It's a city smaller than Birmingham with no where near the amount of teachers.
If your instructor is good and charging $74/month, it's a hell of a deal.
As a former guitar instructor, I can say they are way overpriced. If you can learn from Youtube, do it. It's insane that I was making nearly $4000/month with about 20-25 hours of work per week.
