I hit home pretty hard it is likely to be a victim of circumstances which could cause him to take a hit independent of the quality of the film. I explicitly said that.
But all you heard was “HE DISSED NOLAN *autistic screetching*”
No, people heard you saying that the studio could give Nolan less freedom because of rare and unforeseen circumstances outside of this control, which is pretty dumb

Of course not, but that’s not how you framed the question at all. And I think its pretty safe to say that EVERY film is currently in danger of underperforming relative the standards of a pre-Covid world. Nothing to do with Nolan.
Fair enough.
But what I’m driving at is that this film sits at a confluence of a lot of factors which can leave studios sitting bitter.
20% of first dollar gross isn’t unheard of, but it’s an outlier reserved for the elite that is a massive handicap in the current environment.
At end end of the day, the fact that they are still gunning for being the first release in 4-6 months means there is a significant risk of investors losing a combined 100s of millions of dollars.
That’s bound to leave a lot of people salty.

Then why not title the thread “Will Tenet break Nolan’s studio mystique?”

They’ll wind up releasing it in theaters and on-demand/streaming service for $20/24 hours and wind up making their money back eventually once it makes it overseas. It’s just gonna take longer to recoup.

Who are they to be salty at? Certainly not Nolan. And I’m no fanboy btw. Didn’t see 1917 and think TDK is one of the most overrated films of the 21st century (though The Prestige is in my top 5). Perhaps they should be salty at themselves who’ve sold out to the market of China, who is kinda, you know, responsible for all this bullshite.
