Why don't DVDs have the option to watch deleted scenes as part of the movie?

I was watching deleted scenes from Up in the Air yesterday and I really liked them. I understand why they were cut because of time, but I think they added a lot to Clooney's character and even to Anna Kendrick.

I would like to see the film with all of the scenes. I know that some DVDs include different cuts of movies. It can't take that long to go back and reedit the flick.

Is it just a space issue on DVD? Would there have to be two discs if you included multiple versions?

Some do. The ID4 DVD I have has that option, and it really didn't add anything to the movie. But like you said, deleted scenes sometimes add to the character. The Count of Monte Cristo and X2 have deleted scenes that would have been better kept IMO.

Probably so they can get you to buy the Director's Cut later on.

Could be a licensing issue. The movie is copyrighted as a whole...if scenes are added/ deleted from the c version, it would have to be licensed under a different title - ie Apoc Now Redux, Blade Runner Director's Cut, etc.

Forgot to say: I would love that option, but in the age of digital piracy if someone could burn the movie with alt. version...well, it would be a pirated copy anyway...
