What was the point of the movie Honest Thief starring Liam Neeson?

He robs banks of $9 million
Stashes the money in a storage unit yet doesn't spend any of it.
somewhere along the way feels guilty about it
Calls the FBI to turn himself in
Turns into a typical Liam Neeson revenge tour for absolutely no meaningful reason

i saw it last year, and in typical Liam Neeson movie fashion, i enjoyed it, but it's nothing memorable. i like all of unkown, commuter, non-stop, taken, etc., but none of them are worth watching on anything but TBS/TNT/USA when nothing else is on.
if i'm remembering correctly, he stole the money as an FU to some banks for screwing his family over while he was away in the ME. I think somebody died and insurance didn't pay???
He stole it just out of principle with no intention of spending it, but knew that he couldn't get married to this girl with the immorality of what he did hanging over his head. so he took a chance, told her the truth and was hoping that being willing to go to jail for a non-violent crime would get her to forgive him and start a new life.

People liked his character in Taken so they came up with a story where that same character type goes on a revenge tour as you said.
I’m guessing the “plot” only services as a vehicle to present the action...kind of like porn
