24 has some great moments but lots of filler and dumb side plots in most seasons. It is usually very predictable too. That said I still enjoyed it.
Start with Sherlock because it's hard to beat and it has few episodes.

24 isn't on the same level as the ones mentioned in this thread. Shows like The Wire, Sopranos, lost... They suck you in from the onset.
Also, Breaking Bad didnt do that for me. I had to fight my way through season 1 and was so discouraged I didn't start season 2 until everyone was raving about. It got better but doesn't touch The Wire, The Sopranos or Lost, for me.
