I watched some of The Wire (S1 & S2) after a thread I saw on here about S2 and since then Prime has been hammering The Sopranos in my suggestions. So seeing as I've wasn't a TV buff when it originally aired and I've never done a complete rewatch I started it a few weeks back. S1 and 2 were outstanding and hooked me. S3 with the crazy side piece and the whole Jackie Jr story just kind of fell flat for me.

So does it pick back up any steam lost from that season? Or did the writers just kind of shoehorn in ideas like the side piece and Jackie Jr for the remainder of the show? Is it worth the time to see it out?

Its tough to pick a best season. Very consistent show.

S1 was probably my favorite if I had to choose.

Season One, Episode One:

Little A.J.: "So what, no fricking ziti?"

Me: "I'm in."

Ok this is promising. I know all that went down in S3 was probably setting up some things for the future, but the whole season just seemed like one giant setup for future events.

And some of the stuff that went on just made no sense. Like Tony treating his guys that he came up with for so long like absolute dog shite the whole time. Especially Paulie and Chris (right after he has been made no less). Meanwhile folks like Ralphie and Jackie Jr get a total pass from him. Well for a long time up to where Jr really fricked up good. And him letting that car saleswoman treat him like shite and be a complete whackadoo. It was just very out of character for what Tony had been until this season.

The show is more episodic than a lot of TV shows today. It’s more like mad man than anything, which isn’t surprising since most the mad men writers worked on the sopranos.

It’s very much a dark comedy just enjoy the humor and characters. Don’t focus on the plot too much

Sopranos isn’t like most shows nowadays where you can define each season individually since the show is a little more episodic. It isn’t until season 5 through 6B that the show really builds up a huge consistent storyline with the Tony vs Phil Leotardo endgame.

But I like 6B the best

S5.

Generally speaking, all of S3-S6 are better than S1 for sure, and a little better than S2.

Most comedians I've heard talk about the show said they always viewed the Sopranos as a comedy, and not a drama.
