I'm glad I didn't watch each week as they aired cause it sure was fun to watch them all back to back over the course of two nights.
But anyway, Wow Matthew McConaughey! I always thought he was alright enough as an actor but damn he was a Tour de Force in this one.

He was very good, but I think Woody was just as good. I'm a huge Harrelson fan, though.

Woody was good and has always had range. Good to see him back in some a-grade material.

I'm looking forward to having some time to watch all the episodes back-to-back. Waiting a week inbetween was grueling and I feel like the week gaps caused me to forget or gloss over a lot. Still, absolutely stellar season...
SPOILERS
...regardless of the finale, which was fricking money up until Rust wakes up in the hospital. I'm still enamored with the portrayal of Carcossa and that whole sequence when Marty and Rust arrive on scene.

Yeah *spoliers*
Was that galaxy at the end just supposed to be another one of his visions? Cause before they portrayed his visions as just being tracers.

You sure? The IMDB page just has it listed as True Detective LINK

They did a great job in all around casting, too. Michelle Monaghan was solid. The extras, though...that's where the series got so immersive. All of the people the detectives interviewed and came across were seemingly plucked out of the swamps or cane fields and given a page of lines and they nailed it.

Yeah I learned from watching True Detective that people in Erath, Louisiana don't know the outside world exists. I like how in the 90s the show had the people still dressing like it was the 80s.

I blame texting and short hand.
Did you know that Rhode Island is actually called the State of Rhode Island and the Providence Plantations?

I believe that's the agreed understanding, yeah. You've gotta think that he sees tracers and colors just driving down the road so an intense situation like the scene in Carcossa would likely exacerbate those visions to the point that the hypnotic, trance-like monologue that lawnmower man is muttering causes the whole experience of the investigation to seep its way into a sort of visual projection.

Also the thing that really bothered me about the end was when they were walking out of Lafayette General, well that's not Lafayette General! Doesn't look anything like it.

I was out of country & a few wks behind catching finale. Seemed like it could've used 10 episodes. There was a truck full of events jammed into #8, and scarface was a true, twisted weirdo worth developing more imho.

agreed. the end seemed rushed. I think another episode or 2 would have made the show that much better

You just better hope SFP doesn't see this thread.

Just watch this. If I could, I'd make a haunted house at Halloween based completely on the Carcosa set and Errol's urgings. I think one of the great things about the scene is that it takes place during the day. The light refracting around all the branches actually plays well into the monologue at the end of the episode.
The Altar
IMO, at least a 9th episode would have done the show more justice. I wanted so bad to spend more time developing Childress and exploring that landscape and those buildings. Would love it if somehow the second season involved revisiting that place for maybe an episode. Totally had my imagination running wild.
