In the film, the dad tells police that his wife (JBW) is 32 years old. Their oldest daughter is said to be 16. So, one or both of them were teen parents.
Knowing that, scenes like the aforementioned bedroom/weed scene take on a bit if a different meaning, not to mention the scene where the wife is attacked by ghosts while wearing her husband's HS football jersey.

That 16 year old actress was soon murdered irl right around the time the film was released.
JoBeth actually did a great job of blending her youthful ignorance with her protective mother side in the movie. Makes sense now. I think that vulnerability is why I was attracted to her in the movie.

And Carol Ann died a couple of years later in a very bizarre, possibly molesty way.

Yea I thought it was one of those unofficial Hollywood secrets that she was killed stemming from molestation.

Saw it when I was a kid. That movie scared the shite out of me. Especially the face off and clown under the bed. Did a rewatch many years later and there was more humor than I didn’t get as a kid. It’s a classic

Short Circuit was definitely in Oregon, not California. In fact, you can now currently stay in "Stephanie's House" as it is a short term rental in Astoria.
Oregon is one of the 5 states I have not been to. When I go, I am going to do a Goonies, Short Circuit, Kindergarten Cop and Point Break tour. All of that was between Astoria and Cannon Beach.

Do the whole coast. It is majestic. Oregon is a landscape paradise.

Never thought it was a good movie. Saw it in the theater when it first came out and felt it was pretty cheesy at that time.
