Good answer. Your thought process is reasonable.

My thought process is also reasonable, and nothing in the movies proves either opinion right or wrong.

I choose to believe that the Mace Windu was the perfect guy to defeat the emperor. He was the jedi weapons master and in jedi guardian class, meaning he focused on the saber. He also develop his own style of saber fighting which was specifically tailored to beat the Sith. That day, Mace was too much for the emperor.

The Emperor was getting his arse kicked (by his own powers mind you) and the trump card of helping Padme saved him.

I can't deny it was a huge gamble, but it was a gamble he had to make, because he couldn't win without Anakin. Rematch the battle. Palpatine had control of it pretty much the whole time until right before Anakin comes in.

If you agree that Mace had complete control of the battle, you then are forced to believe that Anakin would have turned, regardless. When you take into account Palpatine's speech about the Jedi taking over, it is pretty much proven that him looking defeated by Mace is all a ploy.

Am I the only one that felt like some of the duels were kickass till the ending where they ended awkwardly or kind of random? I felt like anakin turned over to the dark side a little too quickly, palpating killed those two Jedi way to easy, yoda seemed to just give up when he actually had the last big hit really. Even darth maul seemed to just watch obi wan kill him.

The answer is Anakin. He had 20,000 Midi-chlorians per cell. Whatever that means. Apparently this means that he is ridiculously powerful and in tune with the force.

Yea they were off the chart but if no one ever found him then what good do they do him? My point being, he was not completely trained.

Requires its own thread

He was awesome

He knew he wasn't going to win.

Even darth maul seemed to just watch obi wan kill him.

I agree with this.

I wish there were more star wars threads like this around, I'm a complete star wars nerd and every once in a while I need a good discussion about it

I will agree palpatine was awesome but go back and watch him kill those 2, it was kind of awkward. Didn't ruin it for me by any means but always just thought it could have been done a little better.

I def agree with this. I don't know what the overall plan was but the expanded universe makes sense of some of it, even if they are just covering lucas's arse.

No one here is even talking about Luke. Anakin may have been all powerful but the dude succumbed to the quick and easy path and turned to the Dark Side. He was weak. Luke was confronted with the very same temptation and beat it back. That's real power in my opinion.

And for a guy who lacked sufficient JEDI training, the dude stood up pretty well in lightsaber duels and could control the Force at a very reasonable level.

Luke had no motivation to change. He was to naive for his own good. The Emperor and Vader should have known this.

He had plenty of motivation to change. He was naive, he was angry, and he was impressionable. Just take a look at the way he was at the beginning of Return of the Jedi, the kid was an arrogant douche in Jaba's court and sounded just like his father did in Episode II and Episode III. He suffered from the same personality flaws as Anakin and yet, unlike his father, he was able to conquer them when it mattered most.

I almost would've preferred "Revenge" instead of "Return" of the Jedi. Luke was definitely out for blood.
