That's a great point. Average rating of this movie is 4/10. Why is it not at 40%? It's a little sketchy.
Because that's not how rotten tomatoes works
The percentage rating is the percentage of people who gave it a "positive" review. The 4/10 is the average rating each person gave the movie on the 1-10 scale
A movie with a 40% rating doesn't mean the movie is 4/10 stars. Just that 40% of the people think the movie was "good". The other 60% think it's "bad"

The same is said about Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings. Doesn't mean they are not great stories.

Disagree. Those two franchises are much more widely liked and accepted by the general public than Warcraft.
Star Wars was kiddie stuff in the 70's and 80's, the fans just grew up (and the industry recognized the special effects achievement).
Lord of the Rings was alternatively nerdy and hippie (Frodo Lives!), never mainstream. Fans of the stories recognized it was an epic tale, and when the word got out that someone was going to film it on a big budget and played straight (basically getting the Star Wars treatment), they pushed the buzz on it. Promised their non-Tolkien friends to go see it, and people were blown away.
I saw it, it was ok. I'm aware of the game, but never played it. I suppose for a movie made on a game, it's pretty good.
The effects were hit and miss. Some visuals were incredible, some were pretty bad (maybe the other races are meant to look the way they did, but I felt like the Dwarves were a little too CGI for me).
Travis Fimmel needs to hook up with Natalie Dormer. It would be amazing to see the amount of smirkiness their children would have.

In Warcraft, the features of the races are grossly over-exaggerated. For example:
Dwarves have huge heads and upper bodies with even bigger noses
Elves have foot-long ears and wide eyes
Gnomes and Goblins have huge feet (and goblin ears are almost 3 feet long)

And that's not even getting into the Trolls and Dreanei. Trolls have tusks bigger than their heads and the Dreanei have foreheads that would make Warf on Star Trek laugh at them.

yeah, I recognized the fantasy-gaming stylishness in the races. That's been the case forever; I had a friend who was a big D&D nerd in the 80's (who was able to parlay that into a job with Sony Online), and he had all those bestiaries and catalogs with images like that. LOTR really toned the races down notch with the movies.

You never reported back. Did you survive? Thoughts?

I actually really enjoyed the film (I am a huge WoW fan so probably a little biased).
I thought Duncan Jones actually did a really good job of simplifying and making it easier to understand what's going on for the non-Warcraft audience. The movie is stunning to look at, the fight scenes are incredible & Jones somehow makes you believe in the Orcs. Loved the Orcs & for as many bad things I heard about the human characters I actually really enjoyed Lothar, Medivh & Khadgar.
There are a few issues though, pacing in the 1/3 of the movie is rushed, feels like some scenes were cut out but I didn't mind it as much because the 2/3 of the movie made up for it. Really didn't care about the romantic subplot, felt like it came out of left field. And one spoilery thing that for me as a fan knows but I don't think they conveyed it well enough for the general audience to understand.

About what I expected. I'm going tonight, and I've planned to see it again on Sunday morning assuming that I like it.

I saw it last night. Never played the game so no expectations. It was a very entertaining movie. Never gets overly cheesy. The CGI, and I know this is blasphemous to say here, was fine.

Some more box office info from Thursday:
If I've done the math right that means Warcraft has now crossed the $200M mark.

All this. I really like the lead guy from Vikings. The CGI is spectacular. This is a movie that'll be enjoyed by most who see it but hated by many who don't bother to see it.

bullshite. non-gamers universally hate this movie because it is dogshit. You're lying.

I liked it. It was a little long for a modern movie. The two stories didn't really mesh very well. I found myself sympathizing with Durotan more than Lothar. The orcs felt more real than the humans.

The Horde is vastly misunderstood. Anyone who's played the game with an open mind gets where each race is coming from, and the Alliance is a fricking sham. #Blood&Thunder

Truth. It is very easy from a glance to see the horde as the bad guys. The truth is, with the exception of the Lady Stoneheart of Warcraft (Sylvannis..), they really are both on the same side of the moral compass.

You are supposed to sympathize with the orcs.
For the Horde!

What Arthas does to Sylvanas is far worse than what Walder Frey did to Catelyn Stark.
She embraces being the Banshee Queen with a vengeance though, especially the way she takes Lordaeron and turns it into the Undercity.

I was speaking to current times, but you aren't incorrect. Each side has it's heroes and villains. For every Go'el there is an Anduin, just like for every Arthas there is a Gul'dan.
That being said, Sylvanas really got shafted, badly, by Arthas. I mean talk about raw deals.
