nah, they don't mention it. They even go out of the way to suggest it's some poor average joe during his lecture in the beginning.

I did have the thought at the time that I hoped coma stiff was played by bill shatner

looper? it's a huge paradox.

spoilers

if young bruce dies, then old bruce doesn't come back in time. If crazy a-hole future criminal boss isn't made into a monster, and he's the one behind them getting sent back so that the assassin can close the loop, well...

I agree with you here

in fact, I took the whole ending as a big frick you to the audience after they fed us the dont think about time travel too hard line early on.

as I remember (and I saw this in the theater and never again)

he is giving some lecture about the ethics of transferring some cancer patient into the coma. I remember them saying something to the effect that he's just some dude.

anyway, the commentary? you think somewhere in all of those movies a brain dead twin might pop up, especially when the professor dies

that is not an adequate or even subtle explanation. How could any audience member discern that's his twin unless they listen to the commentary or read a comic?

yeah, the ending is what totally screwed up what had otherwise been a rarely good piece of sci fi

well, and bruce willis double fisting machine guns...that's where it started to suck.

I actually liked that and did it in a clever way, so I was willing to give some leeway, but they destroyed the whole fricking thing

I was fine with it too and even chuckled at it but then once the film collapsed on itself I saw it as the middle finger it really was.

To be fair, comic movies are made b/c they have large enough built in fan bases to justify it. They tend to know a bit more than the average Joe Shmoe. Does it suck for the average viewer who didn't read the comics that something like that can be glossed over? Hell yea.

But shite like that happens with adaptations of books all the time too.

In the case of the XMen movies I'd just chalk it up to Ratner being a hack and Singer smelling his own farts a bit too much.

I already suspended disbelief that the guy who didn't close out his loop (and thus would be executed) would still have his future self come back...and oh my god, I need to stop before my head hurts

yeah, but you know basic info going in

like the concepts of mutants, or that wolverine has claws...and even still they set aside exposition for that. That's what pisses me off about the harry potter movies

it's a crucial piece of info that you have to read in the book, otherwise you're lost. I only care about the movie. It would piss me off even if I read the book

That was right about where my brain turned itself back on and started asking questions.

x men days of future past - maybe not a great example of tying up loose ends, but his mind travels back in time. Now I'm not sure if there is an alternate dimension or timeline, but when you can eradicate the franchise killer movie, without actually dismissing it, then bravo. It's about as good a job as you could do. Maybe episode vii can do something similar with the prequels.

strongly disagree here. The time travel aspect completely lowered the stakes of the film. Basically, Logan had one sentence to say to Charles "Hey if we fail, when you meet Kitty Pryde, we can just try this again."

the café scene was done well...there was some subtlety to it...ok, time travel is going to make way for some small holes, but then they ripped open a pacific ocean sized hole

I was willing to dismiss the guy who gets surgically dismantled because he wasn't the main character. Also I liked the gritty dystopian KC...but I'm with you. the ending was a "frick you"

and my friends thought I was the one who didn't get it.

I was about to use that as a point of reference for where non book readers kind of get the shaft.

Things like Harry going from calling Peter Pettigrew to Wormtail when (at least the best of my recollection) he is never even told on screen that was his nickname stood out and briefly took me out of the movies. shite, I don't think he is ever even told that magic map was his father's.

Interstellar...as far as science is the only one that really got it right. (Obviously, theoretically at least)

oh, I fricking hate them. And it's always something that they totally had time to give a really brief explanation for.

my brother maintains that you have to read the book. frick that, and I say that even if I read the book.
