I mean, there’s IMAX with top of the line Dolby speakers, and then there’s standard movie screens, which, per square footage of screen, is less of a deal compared to a decent home theater experience.


I don’t think anyone who has said anything negative about the modern multiplex experience had anything negative to say about a quality IMAX theater.

Edit: And we’re also talking about Top Gun: Maverick, the first movie in years to be photographed and sound edited to be absolutely fitting for the big screen experience. Even the experience of watching a crowd-pleaser like Spider-Man No Way Home doesn’t really scale to the big screen experience like Maverick does.

There's only around 200 REAL IMAX theaters in the country.

The rest just slap IMAX on the marquee like Gluten Free on your box of pasta.

Regardless, the movie is worth seeing in the theaters.

You don't need IMAX, because you aren't going to find it...just basically regular theaters calling themselves IMAX.

I prefer the AMC Dolby Screen off O'Neil to IMAX.

And TopGun has been out too long to be showing on the better screens at this point.
