I thought it succeeded on every level. DDL was unforgettable, and the shots were as stark and weird as Greenwood's string score. Also really liked the actors that I have no idea what else they've been in, like that 140 year old looking Bandy guy that wouldn't sell his land until Plainview went to church. It's highly stylized, and that can be polarizing but it's a style I like.

But I think it's much harder, and more demonstrative of an actor's talent, to play a quiet role and reveal things in small gestures. It's why I still think DDL's best role is The Boxer. It's also why Tommy Lee Jones was so brilliant in NCFOM. Over the top is easy, but it's hard to dominate a film with quiet authority.

TML was sensational as the subdued and subtle lead role.

His face told us so much.

Thats why despite DDL amazing performance. The best scene was when

*spoiler*

When he recognizes his "brother" was lying to him. His facial expression from nonchalant to suspicious was amazing.

How dare you sir! How dare you. Dinosaurs gifs bring back the haunting memories of how that show ended.

Good day!

Including the kid who played H.W. More often than not, I find young people's performances unconvincing and annoying. But that boy nailed his character in TWBB.

My favorite part is when the "brother" introduces himself and Plainview asks "who are you"? He says it another time as the stranger identified himself and theres an immediate discerning tone in which his voice changes and he asks "who are you"? His instinct tells him its not his brother but I think he buys into the lie.

I love everything about this movie
