If you haven't seen "Dancing Outlaw" do yourself a favor & watch it. The greatness is off the charts. Jesco is legendary.

Sadly a lot of people live like this in Appalachia/the delta and other poverty ridden areas

This is why it was made. We have a major issue in Appalachia that is virtually ignored. Most only consider urban neighborhoods as the ones that are drug and crime ridden.

And entire region of this country is plagued with poverty and addiction. And to the folks who think it’s all about personal decisions, you have to understand what it’s like growing up somewhere like this.

There are areas of central and northern Louisiana that are similar. It’s sad, really.

Hillbilly Elegy is a fantastic book for anyone interested. Author grew up in the thick of the Appalachia bullshite, and made his way to Yale, eventually. His stories read like fiction in many cases.

I remember running across this documentary early in the morning before my wife and I went to work years ago. It had already started but I could not take my eyes off it. Both of us were almost late for work.

I found it on one of the pay channels and recorded it later that day. We watched that shite and laughed our arse off. The old boy describing how his nephew shot him was great detail

That thing is an American classic. If you have never seen it, I beg you to find it. Hell, pay for it if you have to.

It does not disappoint.

I think the Popcorn Sutton doc has some connections to it as well. I recall Popcorn talking dirty to Mamie and saying he was gonna go down on her when they met, but then once he met her he changed his mind... and one of the White offspring talking about sipping gasoline (“it’s like bees buzzing around in your head”) and riding motorcycles afterward

Ah the memories, one of the first things I ever watched on Netflix..

It was vital to taking Netflix into the streaming age. Now you gotta pay like $20 on Amazon Prime if you want to stream it.

I haven’t seen it in forever, but I remember I think her name was Sue Bob singing coal miners daughter with a deeper voice than mine. I’m gonna have to rewatch tonight.

I rewatched last night. There are so many great parts that I had forgotten about. The opening scene is hilarious. It's their moms 85th birthday and they're hot-boxing her tiny apartment and snorting pills right in front of her.

Also, at the kid who thought he was gonna get a suspended sentence for attempted murder and shooting at the police because the judge liked him. HE GOT 50 YEARS

I'd love to see a where are they now type video.
